What is Dysport?
Dysport is a brand of botulinum toxin type A powder for injecting solution that is manufactured by Ipsen, a world-renowned French pharmaceutical company. This temporary muscle-relaxing medication is extracted from the bacterial fermentation of Clostridium botulinum. The drug comes in the form of a white powder that must be reconstituted with a sterile sodium chloride B.P. (0.9 % w/v) solution. Once reconstituted, it becomes a clear and colourless solution ready for administration. This medication is usually used to treat painful muscle contractions and spasms such as spasmodic torticollis (wry neck) and blepharospasm (eyelid muscle spasms). Besides medical conditions, when medical professionals buy dysport, it is also used to temporarily improve the appearance of moderate to severe frown lines (glabellar lines) between the eyebrows for patients less than 65 years of age.
What is Juvederm?
Juvederm is a brand of dermal fillers that is designed and manufactured by Allergan, a pharmaceutical company headquartered in Ireland. The soft tissue fillers are all composed of hyaluronic acid molecules that are extracted biotechnologically from fermenting bacterial cultures. Various patented technologies are used to produce wide range of soft tissue fillers that can correct various aesthetic imperfections like wrinkles, folds, and undefined facial contours. Even premature ageing signs like dehydration and dullness can be treated with Juvederm fillers. These implants are packaged in ready-use, sterile, and disposable syringes.
Similarities and differences between Dysport Vs Juvederm
Similarities
The major similarity between Dysport and Juvederm is that both these brands can be used to treat aesthetic concerns, most specifically, glabellar lines. That being said, only highly experienced specialists should attempt to correct signs of ageing using injectables.
Differences
The main difference between Dysport and Juvederm is the mechanism of action. Dysport reduces the appearance of forehead lines by temporarily paralysing the muscles that cause movements. On the other hand, Juvederm smooths facial lines by filling and plumping the collapsed areas under the skin. Besides that, the botulinum toxin type A powder in Dysport must also be reconstituted with a suitable solvent before it can even be injected into the affected areas while Juvederm fillers are all readily packed into individual syringes that be immediately used to correct aesthetic imperfections. The ingredients of each injectable are also different. In addition, the injection technique also differs greatly between those 2 products. Dysport, being a potent muscle-relaxing medicine, is meant to be injected intramuscularly while Juvederm is indicated to be administered intradermally. The depth of the filler placement depends largely on the severity of the skin condition.
