What is the Difference Between Stylage and Juvederm?

Published on: Jun 15, 2018

What is Stylage?

Stylage is a brand of injectable dermal fillers that are designed and manufactured by Vivacy Laboratories, a renowned French pharmaceutical company. The fillers are made of non animal-based hyaluronic acid molecules. These molecules are extracted through biofermentation and highly purified before they are cross-linked with a patented reticulating technology called IPN-Like Technology.

The resulting gel is biodegradable and extremely viscoelastic with a monophasic texture. These fillers are unique as they are incorporated with the antioxidants mannitol or sorbitol to not only preserve the physio-chemical properties of the gel but also maintain good skin health by scavenging any harmful free radicals.

After many years of research and development, the Stylage brand boasts a wide collection of fillers that can be used to address many aesthetic issues—from correcting simple skin dullness to volumizing sunken facial regions. Some of the fillers are available with lidocaine to better manage pain and discomfort during injection.

What is Juvederm?

Juvederm is a collection of cross-linked hyaluronic acid soft tissue fillers that are formulated and produced by Allergan, a multinational pharmaceutical company specializing in manufacturing branded medical products.

The hyaluronic acid molecules are produced synthetically and aseptically through the fermentation of bacterial cultures, and then purified to be free from any potentially harmful impurities. The hyaluronic acid particles are then cross-linked with each other using either Vycross™ or Hyalacross™ Technologies.

The resulting bioresorbable gel is of monophasic texture. Juvederm fillers be used to correct numerous skin defects such as dehydration and facial fat atrophy. Some of the fillers are available with fast-acting lidocaine to ensure comfort during treatment.

Is Stylage better than Juvederm?

The major difference is that Stylage fillers are integrated with antioxidants. These skin-protective components help to preserve the action of the filler material once implanted into the skin by ensuring that the injected areas are not damaged by free radicals.

Another difference is the cross-linking technologies employed to process the two brands. In Stylage formulas, IPN-Like Technology cross-links the hyaluronic acid molecules together with minimal usage of the chemical reticulating agent, 1,4-butanediol diglycidyl ether (BDDE). In Juvederm formulas, Vycross Technology cross-links 90% (majority) low molecular weight and 10% (minority) high molecular weight hyaluronic acid. In comparison, Hyalacross Technology produces fillers with a smooth and less granular consistency. Many medical professionals trust Maylips to both buy Stylage and Juvederm at affordable prices.
