DYSPORT® 500u is a botulinum toxin type A product used for both therapeutic and aesthetic applications. It functions as a neuromuscular blocking agent, inhibiting acetylcholine release at nerve terminals, which leads to muscle relaxation. Approved by the FDA, it is indicated for the treatment of cervical dystonia, upper limb spasticity, lower limb spasticity in pediatric patients, and glabellar lines. The effects are temporary, requiring periodic reinjections. DYSPORT® has a different unit measurement compared to other botulinum toxins, and doses are not interchangeable with Botox or other brands.

DYSPORT® is indicated for multiple conditions affecting muscle control:
Therapeutic Indications:
- Cervical dystonia: Reduces excessive neck muscle contractions
- Upper limb spasticity: For adult patients with involuntary muscle stiffness
- Lower limb spasticity in pediatric patients (ages 2+) due to cerebral palsy
Aesthetic Indication:
- Glabellar lines: Reduces moderate to severe frown lines in adults under 65
Contraindications:
- Hypersensitivity to botulinum toxin or its components
- Infection at the injection site
- Patients allergic to cow’s milk protein
Side Effects:
- Common: Muscle weakness, dry mouth, fatigue, pain at injection site
- Severe: Difficulty breathing/swallowing, blurred vision, urinary incontinence
- Risk of toxin spread: Symptoms may appear hours to weeks after injection, including difficulty swallowing, respiratory distress, or paralysis
DYSPORT® 500u (English/Korean) - Administration Technique and Storage
DYSPORT® is a lyophilized (freeze-dried) powder, requiring reconstitution with preservative-free 0.9% Sodium Chloride Injection before use.
Administration Technique:
- Intramuscular injection only
- Dilution guidelines:
- 500-unit vial:
- 1 mL diluent = 50 Units per 0.1 mL
- 2.5 mL diluent = 20 Units per 0.1 mL
- 5 mL diluent = 10 Units per 0.1 mL
- 500-unit vial:
- Re-treatment: Should occur no sooner than every 12 weeks
Storage Recommendations:
- Store at 2°C to 8°C (36°F to 46°F)
- Do not freeze after reconstitution
- Protect from light
- Use within 24 hours after dilution
