What is Revanesse?

Revanesse is a non-animal hyaluronic acid soft tissue filler manufactured by Prollenium Medical Technologies, a Canadian pharmaceutical company. This biodegradable gel contains 25mg/mL of synthetic hyaluronic acid, which is designed to smooth out superficial and medium facial wrinkles. It comes in the form of a clear monophasic gel and is packaged in a 1mL syringe. A box of Revanesse comes with 2 preloaded syringes, 4 sterile 27G needles, and device manual leaflet. Store this device in its original packaging.

What is it used for?

Revanesse is made of non-animal based hyaluronic acid and is processed to be a monophasic gel. This ultra-smooth gel is perfect for fine to medium wrinkles such as crow’s feet, tear troughs, periorbital lines, forehead lines, and glabellar wrinkles. These superficial wrinkles are gently lifted for a subtle, yet effective, rejuvenating effect.

How does this dermal filler work?

Facial creases like lines and wrinkles can be categorized into 2 types: dynamic and static wrinkles. Dynamic wrinkles occur as a result of repetitive facial movements over the years. For example, crow’s feet at the corner of the eyes might appear on those who squint a lot. Other examples of dynamic wrinkles include forehead lines. Static wrinkles form as a result of loss of skin elasticity. The body’s internal ageing slows down new cell turnover, so the production of substances that create suppleness and firmness, such as collagen and hyaluronic acid, decreases. As such, the skin loses its youthful appearance as skin begins to sag and wrinkles form. Usually, these facial creases are made worse by external aggressors (e.g. smoking, extended solar exposure, pollution) that introduce damaging free radicals to the skin. When the already lax and weakened skin gets attacked by the free radicals, the wrinkles become severe.

Revanesse is made of non-animal based hyaluronic acid that is processed using patented Thixofix Technology. This technology promotes more effective links between the molecules. It results in a highly viscous and monophasic gel that can still be easily injected through a fine gauge needle without causing degradation. The gel also shares similar osmolarity and pH to human tissues, making it extremely compatible. Once injected, the gel seamlessly volumises the wrinkles, resulting in a youthful visage.

How to inject it?

Revanesse is a medical device intended for aesthetic treatment and can only be administered by certified skin specialists. Most importantly, the procedure must be done under strict aseptic standards to reduce risk of immunogenic reactions. Reviewing the patient’s medical information is important to ensure that they are indeed suitable to receive dermal filler injections. As part of aseptic guidelines, please clean and sanitise the targeted areas with a disinfectant. Assemble the medical device by securing the provided needle to the preloaded syringe. Administer the aesthetic filler gel intradermally via mid-dermis injections. Gently massage the treated areas after injection to ensure good gel distribution. Once again, follow aseptic standards and responsibly discard any leftover gel or used medical supplies, as they pose a risk of biological hazard. Read the device manual leaflet for more information on usage instructions and precautions.

How long does this facial filler last?

Revanesse consists of monophasic hyaluronic acid gel, which is famed for its consistent performance. The particles in a monophasic gel exist in a uniform and cohesive texture in the syringe, and remain so once they’re implanted in the targeted tissues. Furthermore, Thixofix Technology produces a strongly cross-linked gel that can withstand extensive facial expressions without premature degradation. This gel has been proven to provide desirable plumping effects for up to 6 months or longer. The biodegradable filler gradually dissolves and gets absorbed into the surrounding tissues. Results vary from patient to patient.

Is this product safe?

Yes, Revanesse is a safe aesthetic filler designed to be completely free from animal products. The molecules are extracted and purified from the fermenting bacterial cultures following stringent manufacturing processes. As well, extensive testing has shown the risk of inflammatory reactions is extremely low. Despite being synthetic, the gel is able to mimic the functions of naturally-occurring hyaluronic acid in the body. However, some clients may have been contraindicated from using this solution due to poor safety level, including:

  1. Clients who are allergic to hyaluronic acid products;
  2. Clients who have had allergic reactions before;
  3. Clients who are suffering from bleeding/autoimmune/skin (e.g. keloid) disorders;
  4. Clients who are on immunomodulators;
  5. Clients who are suffering from skin inflammation or infections on proposed treatment areas;
  6. Clients who are pregnant or breastfeeding;
  7. Clients who are below the age of 18.

Read the device leaflet for more information on contraindications.

Revanesse side effects

The common side effects that patients may face are due to post-injection inflammatory reactions.

Common side effects:

  • Redness
  • Pain
  • Swelling
  • Skin discolouration.

These reactions will typically only affect the areas where the injection occurs and will resolve themselves within a few days of the procedure.

Rare side effects:

  • Tissue death
  • Inflamed lumps
  • Pus
  • Hypersensitivity

These more severe reactions may still happen to your clients, though these are rare. Educate patients so they can recognize these symptoms and seek medical attention if the reactions worsen or persist. Read the device manual leaflet for more information on probable side effects.

What is it made of?

Revanesse is made of non-animal based hyaluronic acid and is processed to be a monophasic gel using Thixofix Technology. This original technology promotes more effective links between the hyaluronic acid molecules while partially reacted and ineffective links are diminished. Hence, the filler material can be injected easily even through fine gauge needles. Once administered, the ultra-smooth homogeneous gel will plump and lift wrinkles for a longer period of time than other dermal fillers without succumbing to premature degradation.
