Yvoire Classic Plus is a biodegradable soft tissue implant that is made of cross-linked hyaluronic acid gel. Its hyaluronic acid molecules are derived via biofermentation before they are purified and cross-linked using 1,4-butanediol diglycidyl ether (BDDE), a chemical-reticulating compound. The resulting viscoelastic gel is composed of 22mg/mL of hyaluronic acid and 0.3% lidocaine, a rapid-acting anesthetic that allows for a pain-free and comfortable treatment session.

When you purchase a box of Yvoire Classic Plus, you’ll receive 1-1mL syringe pre-filled with the sterilised injectable gel, sterilised and disposable 27G and 30G needles, and a product information pamphlet. Since this fragile medical device comes in sterilised packaging, always keep it in a closed, dark storage container between 2°C to 25°C.

What is it used for?

Yvoire Classic Plus may be used for a multitude of cosmetic issues, from wrinkles to facial lipoatrophy.  Its volumising power can be used to plump up the dermis, smoothing out lines and depressions in the skin. However, it may also be used to replace lost subcutaneous fat in patients suffering from HIV, particularly in the cheeks and temples. What’s more, it may also be used to beautifully and non-surgically sculpt patients’ lips into the shape and size that they desire.

How does it work?

Healthy, young skin is chock-full of hyaluronic acid, a hydrating substance that provides volume and moisture to dermal cells. However, throughout the ageing process, hyaluronic acid levels are naturally depleted. This causes the skin to lose its plumpness and hydration, causing it to wrinkle, sag, and dry out.

When injected into the dermis, Yvoire Classic Plus increases the levels of hyaluronic acid in the skin, reinforcing its weakened structure. By binding with up to 1,000 times its weight in water molecules, hyaluronic acid works immediately to replenish lost volume and moisture. With this, facial creases are effectively erased, while hollowed facial regions are flawlessly volumised.

How to inject Yvoire Classic Plus

Prior to performing these injections, ensure that you take down a comprehensive medical history from the patient. Additionally, their aesthetic imperfections must also be evaluated to determine the degree of correction needed.

Prepare the patient for treatment by cleansing and disinfecting the injection sites and assembling the syringe. You may then gently administer the filler gel into the mid-to-deep dermis. The exact injection depth and technique may vary according to the severity of the patient’s cosmetic issues and the areas involved. Once you have corrected all issues successfully, gently massage the areas to ensure even placement of the implant.

After treatment, any remaining filler material must be discarded, as it is only intended for a single use. Discard the leftover gel and used medical appliances in designated biological waste bins to reduce the risk of cross-contamination.

How long does it last?

This filler has been found to last for about 1 year following injection. That being said, this may vary depending on the patient’s age, health status, skin condition, and lifestyle habits.

It is important to note that because this implant is made of hyaluronic acid, patients who are dissatisfied with their results may have them dissolved using hyaluronidase. Otherwise, patients may return for maintenance injections on an annual basis.

Is it safe?

Yvoire Classic Plus is a safe and sterilised medical device. It is made of highly purified and refined hyaluronic acid molecules so as to ensure low incidence of adverse reactions among clients. However, this soft tissue filler should not be used in the following patients:

  • People who are hypersensitive to gram-positive bacteria;
  • People who are hypersensitive to hyaluronic acid;
  • People who are hypersensitive to lidocaine;
  • People with autoimmune diseases;
  • People with skin diseases (e.g. acne, herpes, hives, inflammations, etc.) on proposed injection sites;
  • Or people who are pregnant or nursing.

Refer to the product information pamphlet for more information on warnings and safety precautions.

What are the side effects?

Following intradermal implantation of the filler, patients may develop undesirable localised reactions.

Common side effects:

  • Pain
  • Bruising
  • Papules
  • Itchiness
  • Swelling

The inflammatory reactions above are usually very mild in nature: patients’ estimated recovery time is about 3 to 5 days. If they do not resolve within this time, patients should consult a health-care provider.

Rare side effects:

  • Allergic reaction

Kindly educate your patients to seek swift medical intervention should they develop hypersensitivity reactions. Refer to the product information pamphlet for more information on side effects of Yvoire Classic Plus.

What is it made of?

Yvoire Classic Plus is a completely synthetic cross-linked soft tissue implant that is made of 22mg/ml hyaluronic acid and 0.3% lidocaine, which are reconstituted in a pH 7.1 phosphate buffer. The hyaluronic acid molecules are extracted from fermented bacterial cultures and are then purified extensively and chemically cross-linked into a viscoelastic and bioresorbable filler.
