What is NeuroBloc 10000 Units?

Also known as MyoBloc, NeuroBloc is indicated for the treatment of cervical dystonia. Its active ingredient, rimabotulinumtoxinB (botulinum toxin type B), works to reduce the severity of neck pain and abnormal head position associated with this ailment.

Botulinum toxin type B is produced by the fermentation of Clostridium botulinum type B bacteria. In this sterile formulation, this substance has been purified to increase efficacy.

NeuroBloc’s manufacturer, Solstice Neurosciences, LLC, develops, markets, manufactures, and sells biopharmaceutical products. Solstice is a wholly-owned subsidiary of US WorldMeds, LLC, a specialty pharmaceutical company that provides innovative products for patients with unmet and challenging medical needs.

Each package of MyoBloc contains a 2mL glass vial filled with 10000 units. This fragile solution should be stored between 2 and 8°C, and away from heat, direct sunlight, children, and freezing temperatures.

What is MyoBloc used for?

MyoBloc may be used to treat cervical dystonia, a disorder characterised by frequent and abnormal muscular contractions in the neck. This causes the neck to twist and the head to become positioned unusually, resulting in pain and discomfort.

The botulinum toxin contained in NeuroBloc helps to relax the muscles, reducing the symptoms of cervical dystonia. As an alternative to treatments containing botulinum toxin type A, MyoBloc provides unresponsive patients with additional possibilities.

How does this Botulinum toxin B work?

Botulinum toxin type B binds to and cleaves the synaptic Vesicle Associated Membrane Protein (VAMP), a necessary component in the release of neurotransmitters. In turn, this inhibits the release of acetylcholine, the neurotransmitter that controls communications between the nerves and the muscles. By stopping the discharge of this chemical, neuromuscular movement is brought to a halt. In the case of cervical dystonia, this mechanism produces flaccid paralysis, temporarily relaxing the neck muscles.

How to inject NeuroBloc

Please note that only registered, licensed medical professionals may administer NeuroBloc injections. Furthermore, these individuals should be familiar and experienced in the treatment of patients with cervical dystonia, injection techniques, and the use of botulinum toxins.

The recommended initial dosage for patients who have previously tolerated botulinum toxin injections is 2500–5000 units, which should be divided amongst the affected muscles. In patients without a prior history of tolerating botulinum toxin injections, a lower initial dose should be used. Subsequent injections and dosing should be determined separately for each patient, depending on their response to the medication.

In the event that botulism occurs, patients should be monitored for adverse reactions, including difficulty swallowing and breathing. Additionally, these patients should be admitted to the hospital for frequent respiratory monitoring and support.

How long does it last?

Generally, the effects of NeuroBloc should last from 12 to 16 weeks. After this period, patients may require maintenance injections to prevent the return of any painful symptoms. The longevity of this treatment will depend on the patient’s lifestyle and age, as well as the quantity of solution used for treatment.

Is this product safe?

While NeuroBloc is generally regarded as a safe, effective treatment for cervical dystonia, certain patients should abstain from its use due to existing contraindications. For instance, individuals who are allergic or hypersensitive to botulinum toxin type B or other components of this medication should not be given MyoBloc. Additionally, patients with existing nerve or muscle-related diseases, as well as those who have recently experienced shortness of breath or trouble swallowing should not be administered this medication.

Please note that NeuroBloc has not been tested for use in pregnant and breastfeeding women or children under the age of 18. As such, these populations should avoid the use of this injectable solution.

In certain cases, MyoBloc should be used with caution. This includes the treatment of patients with haemophilia and lung problems. Additionally, individuals who are taking aminoglycoside antibiotics for infection or medicines that stop blood clotting should take care with NeuroBloc use.

MyoBloc has only been approved for use in cases of cervical dystonia. It should never be used to treat other conditions, as its potential side effects remain unknown.

What is it made of?

The main, active component of NeuroBloc is rimabotulinumtoxinB, which is more commonly known as botulinum toxin type B. This compound is produced by the fermentation of Clostridium botulinum bacteria, which may cause botulism. When this occurs, patients experience general muscle paralysis and weakness.

While these effects are undesirable in cases of botulism, patients with cervical dystonia may benefit greatly from selective muscle paralysis. In NeuroBloc, botulinum toxin type B is used to relax the neck muscles, which stiffen and contract as a result of this illness. This relaxation is achieved through the binding of botulinum toxin type B to the synaptic Vesicle Associated Membrane Protein (VAMP). By cleaving this protein, the toxin inhibits the release of acetylcholine, the neurotransmitter responsible for neuromuscular communications. With this, unnecessary and unwanted muscular contractions are halted, temporarily relieving the symptoms of cervical dystonia.

MyoBloc also contains disodium succinate, hyaluronic acid, and human serum albumin solution. Certain individuals may be allergic to these ingredients, and should not use this medication as a result.
