SUPARTZ® helps patients who suffer from knee pain due to joint inflammation (osteoarthritis). Patients who have not responded to other treatments such as acetaminophen, exercise, or physical therapy are recommended to use this product since it may work by acting as a lubricant and shock absorber in the joint, helping the knee to move smoothly, thereby lessening pain. The hyaluronate (also known as hyaluronan) ingredients in SUPARTZ® is similar to a substance that occurs naturally in the joints. SUPARTZ® treatment is approved for 5 weekly injections. However, unlike “ONE size fits all” HA injection treatments, physicians are able to tailor the number of injection depending on individual needs to break the vicious osteoarthritis cycle. Some patients may experience benefit with as few as 3 injections given at weekly intervals. Patients treated with 3 injections were evaluated for 90 days has been noted in a study. Applying the injection by following appropriate schedule is essential.
