WHAT IS BELOTERO INTENSE?
Belotero Intense is one of several dermal fillers in the Belotero range made by Merz Pharmaceuticals. It is a sterile, bioresorbable hyaluronic acid dermal filler gel. Each product in this range is differentiated by the hyaluronic acid concentration. As such, this dermal filler has a hyaluronic acid concentration of 25.5mg/ml and is designed to have better resistance to degradation. All Belotero products are processed using two patented methods—Cohesive Polydensified Matrix Technology and Dynamic Cross-Linking Technology—for better quality. The addition of an anesthetic, lidocaine, provides more comfort during treatment. This clear and colorless gel is prefilled in a 1ml syringe, and is packaged together with two single-use 27G ½” sterile needles, a product instruction leaflet and two traceability labels.
WHAT IS IT USED FOR?
This injectable dermal filler gel is effective for filling in deeper lines and folds. Use to help add volume to the lips or to increase skin tissue volume. Use Belotero Intense to smooth the appearance of severe nasolabial folds, marionette lines, and oral commissures. As well, use this filler to add volume to facial contours.
HOW DOES THIS DERMAL FILLER WORK?
Belotero Intense hyaluronic acid filler gel has three distinctive features: elasticity, cohesivity, and plasticity. This makes it easy to administer through a small needle, and the added lidocaine makes the treatment more comfortable for the patient. The gel also undergoes another process, Dynamic Cross-Linking, which results in a highly malleable and elastic product that can spread uniformly to fill in skin depressions. The added moisture from the hyaluronic acid helps rehydrate the skin while adding volume, resulting in a more youthful look.
HOW TO INJECT IT?
Inform your client of any side effects and contraindications. Belotero Intense is injected into the mid to deep dermis of the skin using the provided 27G ½” sterile needle. Use serial puncture, cross-hatching, fan distribution, or anterotracing injection techniques to administer. The amount needed will depend on the area being treated, but do not overcorrect. It takes approximately half an hour to complete this procedure, with results usually visible instantly. Gently massage the area to mold the gel and ensure it has been properly distributed.
HOW LONG DOES IT LAST?
A single Belotero Intense treatment can last from six to nine months, depending on the area treated and the individual. After this, the hyaluronic acid gel will slowly dissolve into the tissues. Your patients can choose to go for more treatment sessions to maintain the aesthetic effects of this filler gel.
IS THIS PRODUCT SAFE?
Belotero Intense is a very safe product and is used by many doctors world-wide. The active ingredient, hyaluronic acid, is derived from a non-animal source. Hence, there is very low risks of serious reactions. Nevertheless, this product is contraindicated for certain groups of people:
- People who are allergic to bacteria (particularly gram positive bacteria)
- People with hyaluronic acid hypersensitivity
- People with lidocaine sensitivity
- People on immunosuppressive drugs
- Pregnant or breastfeeding women
- Children
This product should not be used on people who are experiencing active skin problems, such as rashes, acne, and cold sores. Besides that, if your patient has recently undergone any other dermal treatments like chemical peels, allow their skin to heal completely before starting this treatment.
BELOTERO INTENSE SIDE EFFECTS
Most side effects reported by patients are injection site inflammatory reactions.
COMMON SIDE EFFECTS
- Swelling
- Erythema (Redness)
- Pain
With correct aftercare methods, these reactions should improve within a week. Patients are encouraged to apply an ice pack to reduce swelling and pain. If applicable, patients can massage the area after treatment using the three-five rule (5 times daily for 5 days, with each session lasting for about 5 minutes) to help integration. In addition, patients are also advised to reduce exposure of treated areas to extreme temperatures and excessive sun until healing is complete. Some blood thinning agents and supplements can cause increased bleeding and bruising at the injection sites. Though rare, some patients may experience severe side effects.
RARE SIDE EFFECTS
- Small Lumps
- Headaches
- Infections
Your patients should seek quick medical care if these side effects persist for more than two weeks.
WHAT IS IT MADE OF?
Belotero Intense hyaluronic acid gel is fermented from Streptococci bacteria cultures.
