How Long Does Juvederm Last? All Products Covered
May 23, 2018
What is Juvederm?
Juvederm is a popular brand of dermal fillers around the world. In fact it is an accurate statement that most medical professional in the aesthetic industry currently buy Juvederm or have bought Juvederm at some point in their career. These aesthetic treatments are popular in part because they are renowned for their longevity compared to other similar filler products.
How Long Does Juvederm Last?
Based on findings in clinical trials, some Juvederm soft tissue fillers tend to last up to year and beyond with optimal treatment conditions. For instance, Juvederm Volbella XC lasts up to 1 year, Juvederm Voluma XC lasts up to 2 years, Juvederm Ultra XC for up to 1 year, and Juvederm Ultra Plus XC lasts up to 1 year or more. In order to maintain results, patients need to return for repeat or touch-up treatments. For this reason, a dermal filler that provides longer-lasting results is often preferable and more cost-effective for the patient in the long run.
The longevity of hyaluronic acid-based dermal fillers, that is, the durability of the results of a dermal filler treatment, depends on several factors. The formulation of the dermal filler plays a central role in determining the longevity of results. Hyaluronic acid, in its native form, is a naturally occurring substance in the body and is metabolised very quickly. This is not a desirable trait for a dermal filler; hence, the hyaluronic acid in dermal fillers is modified through a chemical process called cross-linking (in the case of Juvederm, it is cross-linked BDDE) to improve the durability. The individual patient’s response to therapy is also related to the duration of results. This is a combination of several factors including skin type, metabolism, age, and lifestyle.
Another issue to consider is area of treatment. In areas of the face that are more mobile, such as the mouth, the filler gel does not last as long as when implanted in areas with less tissue mobility, such as in the tear troughs. Lastly, other factors that need to be taken into account include the skill of the practitioner and amount of filler injected.
The duration of results is usually something patients will consider before getting treatment. Help your patient make the right choice of filler for them by providing them with all of the relevant information necessary for them to make an informed decision on Juvederm or other dermal fillers.
