What is The Difference Between Radiesse vs Juvederm?

What is Radiesse?

Radiesse is a type of latex-free, apyrogenic soft tissue filler made of 70% of artificial calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres suspended in a gel carrier. The gel carrier is composed of smooth aqueous carboxymethylcellulose, glycerin, and high-purity water. This type of filler is classified as a biostimulator, as it increases the production of collagen fibres to reinforce skin strength from the inside. The implant is designed and manufactured by Merz Aesthetics. 

What is Juvederm?

When you buy Juvederm, you are getting a brand of injectable skin implants composed of cross-linked hyaluronic acid of non-animal origin and is produced by Allergan. There are 2 major collections within the Juvederm brand which are Vycross™ and Ultra Collection. The former is processed using patented Vycross™ Technology while the latter is cross-linked via Hyalacross™ Technology. The Juvederm fillers are very cohesive and viscous in order to immediately plump skin depressions as well as to improve areas such as the volume of the lips.

Similarities and differences between Radiesse Vs Juvederm

Similarities

Both Radiesse and Juvederm are created to alleviate aesthetic concerns. Once injected intradermally, the filler material helps to reinforce weakened skin structure and subsequently, improve skin appearance. In addition, both of the brands are only able to deliver non-permanent results as the implants will be metabolised slowly by the body.

Differences

The major difference is the type of filler material. Artificial calcium hydroxylapatite (CaHA) microspheres boost the rate of collagen production, restoring the skin’s suppleness. Juvederm, on the other hand, is made of hyaluronic acid, which works to plump up skin depressions by binding to water molecules. Another important difference is that the effects of Juvederm fillers can be reversed using hyaluronidase. This enzyme disintegrates any hyaluronic acid-based implant should patients be dissatisfied with the outcomes.
